In 2021 the Portuguese Charter of Human Rights in the Digital Age was approved in Parliament. The document’s main objective is to clarify the right of free access to the Internet. In the Charter, composed of 23 articles, article 6 is about protection against disinformation. The CDS and the Liberal Initiative identified serious problems in this article at the time and requested its repeal. The request was rejected by majority vote, but a year later the PS backs down and proposes to repeal five of the six points of this article.
